$1 Million Settlement for Foot Drop Following Abdominal Surgery

$1 million for case involving peroneal palsy (“foot drop”) following abdominal surgery performed on a twenty-five-year-old psychology student represented by attorneys Carol Nelson Shepherd and Patricia M. Giordano.

Although the precipitating cause of the neurologic injury was unclear, the health care providers post-operatively failed timely to diagnose that a compartment syndrome of the lower leg was causing the patient’s neurologic signs and symptoms and failed timely to perform surgery to relieve the pressure. During the course of the litigation, the plaintiff did enjoy some improvement and was able to complete his training and pursue his professional career. on Shepherd and Giordano secured $1 million to provide continued support for the student.
