Peter M. Newman represents clients in catastrophic personal injury cases including medical malpractice, product liability, complex personal injury and wrongful death actions. Peter also handles claims against insurance companies for clients who are victims of bad faith in the adjustment or defense of claims, and for clients who made claims for disability benefits that their insurers unreasonably denied. Over the course of more than 30 years as a trial lawyer, Peter has represented clients who are victims of medical and surgical errors and delayed diagnoses, as well as clients injured by defective medical devices and implants. He has also developed considerable experience investigating the cause and origin of fires and industrial accidents.

Peter is regularly listed as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Homeless Advocacy Project. He served a three-year term as a member of the board of governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association and is also a past member of the board of pro bono legal services provider Philly VIP. Peter continues to volunteer pro bono services for VIP, representing indigent clients in its mortgage foreclosure program, and was selected as its volunteer of the month in September 2017. Peter is also a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Judicial Commission, which evaluates candidates for judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and Philadelphia Municipal Court and rates these candidates as “Highly Recommended,” “Recommended” or “Not Recommended” for the benefit of the voting public. Peter serves as an arbitrator in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas and as a Judge Pro Tempore in the Court’s Dispute Resolution Center. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Peter earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his law degree, cum laude, from Tulane University Law School. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephen J. McEwen, Jr., of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, in 1991 and 1992. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
