Six-Figure Verdict against Driver Who Offered to Settle for $20K

Attorney James P. Faunes won a $116,000 jury verdict in a lawsuit for personal injury where the defendant’s final offer to settle was a mere $20,000. On Oct. 25, 2014, his client suffered a significant head injury when the defendant turned into her lane of travel from oncoming traffic on West Chester Pike, causing a violent collision. As a result of the impact, the client sustained severe post-concussive symptoms and hearing loss. Despite these traumatic injuries and the defendant’s clear fault for the collision, the final pre-trial offer to compromise did not even equal his client’s outstanding medical expenses as contained in a lien from her health insurers. At the conclusion of the three-day trial, a jury in the notoriously conservative venue deliberated for roughly an hour before awarding the client $116,000, including $75,000 for pain and suffering.
