Ryan J. Murphy focuses his practice on representing individuals and families in complex catastrophic personal injury litigation. He primarily handles matters involving motor vehicle and trucking accidents, construction accidents, and premises and products liability claims in state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. A former collegiate athlete, Ryan brings the same competitive discipline and relentless work ethic to his advocacy.
Ryan joined Feldman Shepherd in 2026, after establishing a strong reputation as a formidable defense attorney representing corporations, insurers, and self-insured entities in high-exposure catastrophic injury, wrongful death, trucking, construction, and complex premises liability matters. Prior to joining the firm, Ryan spent seven years at two defense firms, most recently in the Philadelphia office of a large law firm where he focused on catastrophic injury litigation.
His prior experience also included construction defect litigation, bankruptcy matters, insurance coverage disputes, commercial litigation, fraud claims, subrogation and recovery actions, landlord-tenant matters, and asbestos/toxic tort litigation. That broad litigation experience sharpened Ryan’s advocacy skills and provided him with unique insight into how insurers and defense counsel evaluate, defend, and resolve serious injury claims. Ryan’s notable prior results include securing the dismissal of a $70 million claim against a major vehicle leasing company involving allegations of negligent entrustment and improper vehicle maintenance. He now applies that experience to maximize results for injured clients.
Ryan began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Michael J. Donohue, in the Criminal Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Cape May County. He also mediated civil cases in the Special Civil Part.
An active member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Ryan serves as an elected member of the Young Lawyers’ Division Executive Committee and is the committee’s financial secretary. He also helped found the “YLD Connections” Mentorship Initiative for young lawyers and law students. Ryan is additionally an appointed member of the Association’s State Civil Litigation Section Executive Committee where he serves as a liaison to the Board of Governors.
Ryan earned his J.D. from Rutgers University Law School – Camden, where he served as Lead Notes Editor of the Rutgers Journal of Law and Religion. He was a student attorney in the Rutgers Law School Advanced Civil Practice Clinic and a volunteer for the Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project. Ryan interned with the Hon. Jean K. FitzSimon of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
He earned his B.A. in History and Politics from Ursinus College, where he was a goalkeeper for the Men’s Soccer team, served on the leadership council, and received multiple Centennial Conference honors.
Ryan is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District New Jersey, and the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania.
Outside the courtroom, Ryan enjoys spending time with his fiancée Emily, and their cavapoo, Clover. In his free time, Ryan also enjoys golf, travel, summers down the shore, playing soccer, the gym, and cheering on all of the Philadelphia sports teams.
